HTC Droid Incredible Smartphone Product Review

The highly anticipated HTC Incredible was well worth the wait. This miniature powerhouse not only looks prettier than a stack of Monets, but also smokes most smartphones when it comes to performance.

Weighing in at 4.6 ounces and spanning a mere 2.3 x 4.6 inches and .47-inches thick, the diminutive device feels sleek and almost toy-like in hand. The black body, festooned with stylish red flourishes, makes it hard to slap on a protective case. The sleek look is enhanced by the buttons, which are flush with the surface of the 3.7-inch, 480 x 800-pixel OLED touchscreen except the optical joystick. With a 1-GHz Snapdragon processor, the Incredible is so speedy, it makes the Flash look like a morbidly obese couch-jockey. An iPhone took about 16 seconds to fully load Wired.com; the speedy Incredible browser took a mere five seconds. And speaking of which, the Incredible supports the Flash Lite 4.0, so you won't see any of those annoying blue Lego icons that pop up when browsing on the iPhone.

Google Android Tablet Imminent

Google is almost ready to start selling its own tablet. The device, according to the New York Times, will be “an e-reader that would function like a computer.” So close is it that Eric Schmidt, CEO at Google, was describing it to friends at “a recent party in Los Angeles.”

The slate-like computer will run Android, and anonymous sources say that Google has already been working with publishers to put books and magazines on the device.

Google Maps Navigation for Android 2.0

Since 2005, millions of people have relied on Google Maps for mobile to get directions on the go. However, there’s always been one problem: Once you’re behind the wheel, a list of driving directions just isn’t that easy to use. It doesn’t tell you when your turn is coming up. And if you miss a turn? Forget it, you’re on your own.

Today we’re excited to announce the next step for Google Maps for mobile: Google Maps Navigation Beta for Android 2.0 devices.

This new feature comes with everything you’d expect to find in a GPS navigation system, like 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting. But unlike most navigation systems, Google Maps Navigation was built from the ground up to take advantage of your phone’s Internet connection.

The Google Android party has begun | CTIA Fall show – CNET Reviews

After two years of waiting, Google Android phones are finally hitting the market en masse.

In the past couple of months, nine devices using Google’s mobile operating system have been announced, including the Motorola Cliq, which goes on sale in November, and the new Samsung Moment, which was announced Wednesday at the CTIA Fall 2009 trade show here. The pipeline is full of more Android devices, some of which have been confirmed and some that are still rumored to be in development.

“We are seeing a lot of interest in Android here,” Kim Titus, a spokesman for Samsung, said Wednesday at the CTIA trade show, where the company is showing off its two Google Android handsets–the Samsung Moment and the Samsung Behold II. “I think these devices have an opportunity to become strong cross-over devices appealing both to business customers as well as to consumers and prosumers.”

Android Source Code Released: Android is Open!
On the official Android Developer Blog it has been announced that Android is now open source! While Google has been saying all along that Android would be open, today became the official day that the code was released to the world.

This should prove to be a huge impetus for other companies to jump on the Android bandwagon, since they can build upon an already established code base with a large developer community and be free of licensing fees and closed source code.

Kudos to Google for keeping their promise and congrats to the Android community. May you rock the mobile phone world with your apps, ideas and innovation!

T-Mobile G1 with Google

For those who preordered the G1 and are anticipating receiving the phone within the coming few days, you can track your shipment even if you don’t have a tracking number! How?

Visit this UPS page here and enter your phone number in the ‘Shipment Reference’ field. Make sure to enter the number with dashes… 800-765-4321 and skip everything else. Now you can track the shipment and know exactly when you will receive your coveted G1. This, obviously, will only work if your phone has already entered the UPS system.

There are many reports of users receiving their phones prior to the official Oct 22 launch date. We tip our hats to T-Mobile for shaving a few days off our anticipation. Now go track that shipment!
